Dr. Steven Vale is Pennsylvania’s most experienced eye surgeon in the field of laser vision correction of refractive errors. He has performed over 32,000 procedures since 1994. In 1999, he returned to his native northeastern Pennsylvania from a practice in Fort Worth, Texas to found InterMountain Eye Associates.
Dr. Vale received his undergraduate degree from Franklin & Marshall College and his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel University School of Medicine). He completed a residency in internal medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital and a second residency in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Health Sciences Center. He is specialty board certified in both Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology. Dr. Vale also completed a cornea, external disease and refractive surgery fellowship at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University and has published numerous articles in the fields of ophthalmology and laser vision correction. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American medical Association. Dr. Vale is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in patient care, and has been selected to America’s Top Ophthalmologists by the Consumers Research Council of America and received the Patients’ Choice Award from the Vitals.com. Founded in 1999 by ophthalmologist Steven Vale, M.D., InterMountain Eye Associates, P.C. delivers comprehensive medical and surgical eye care across Northeastern Pennsylvania. Our service area includes the Pocono Lakes Region, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Sullivan, and Bradford Counties, as well as northern Monroe County. We also provide specialty care in cornea and external eye disease, along with advanced surgical services to patients from Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Hazleton, Nanticoke, and Tunkhannock.
Dr. Vale began practicing in Honesdale, PA, before relocating the first office to Carbondale in August 1999, where he served patients until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the Carbondale office is now closed, e-health visits remain available for those patients who cannot travel to other locations.
In 2003, InterMountain Eye Associates expanded to Scranton, opening a second office at the intersection of Moosic Street and Meadow Avenue. That same year, Dr. Vale also launched Acuity Laser Eye & Vision Center, offering state-of-the-art LASIK vision correction.
Further growth continued in 2006 with the opening of a third office in Bethlehem Township along Route 191, bringing our expertise in medical and surgical ophthalmology to the Lehigh Valley region.
