What is Demodex Blepharitis
Demodex blepharitis is a chronic eye condition caused by Demodex mites, tiny parasites that live in the hair follicles and oil glands of the eyelids, particularly at the base of the eyelashes.
Signs You May Have Demodex Blepharitis
- Itchy, irritated eyes — especially in the morning
- Red, swollen eyelids
- Crusty debris at the base of the eyelashes
- Watery eyes or a gritty sensation
- Chronic “dry eye” that doesn’t respond to drops
- Feeling like there’s something in your eye
There are demodex mites at the base of the lashes on the lower lid.
